The next gathering of Yiddish Farbrengen will take place 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31 at the Shaller Family Sholom Home East campus, 740 Kay Ave., St. Paul. The event will include part two of a DVD with pianist, singer and composer Michael Feinstein.
Feinstein will perform selections by Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, George and Ira Gershwin, and others.
Feinstein is a five-time Grammy nominee, a composer working on a several Broadway shows, an entrepreneur who runs a supper club at the Loews Regency Hotel, and the artistic director of music programs at Lincoln Center in New York City and the new Center for Performing Arts in Carmel, Ind. Despite his accomplishments, however, Feinstein said he is most proud of his efforts to preserve the American songbook.
“I think the most important thing I’m doing,” he said in a press release, “is passing the songs on to another generation.”
Yiddish Farbrengen, expressions and reflections of Jewish culture, is co-sponsored by Temple of Aaron, the Shaller Family Campus, the St. Paul JCC and friends in the community.
