Acclaimed jazz vocalist Kurt Elling will make a stop at the Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant, in support of his new album, 1619 Broadway: The Brill Building Project (Concord Jazz).
The Brill, a New York City landmark, was the home base of tunesmiths going back to the 1930s. Many of the songwriters who provided a danceable soundtrack to the 1960s worked out of 1619 Broadway; and Jews played an outsize role in writing the pop hits.
The AJW and the Dakota are sponsoring a drawing for a pair of tickets to Kurt Elling’s 7 p.m. set, Tuesday, Oct. 23. To enter the drawing, send an e-mail to: community [at] ajwnews.com. On subject line write: “Kurt Elling at the Dakota.” Please include your address and a daytime phone number. Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.
