New York-based artist Dina Kantor, a Minneapolis native, explores the personal significance of what it means to have both Finnish and Jewish roots in the new exhibit titled Finnish and Jewish: Photographs by Dina Kantor, which will open July 14 in the Tychman Shapiro Gallery at the Sabes JCC in St. Louis Park. In January 2006, Kantor began photographing the members of the small Jewish community in Finland, and her images function as a sociological document detailing how Finnish Jews live, work and practice their religious traditions. Pictured below is “Andre, Helsinki, 2006.” A public reception will take place on July 14, which will include an artist talk; visit: www.sabesjcc.org for details). — E.E.B.
