The late Bert Stern, who died on June 26, was known as one of the greatest American photographers — capturing iconic photos of celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine, Sophia Loren and Twiggy that helped create modern advertising. Despite his detestation of being in front of the camera, filmmaker Shannah Laumeister, Stern’s longtime muse, has captured what is described as the “definitive voyage” into his life and work in Bert Stern: Original Mad Man, which is now available on DVD from First Run Features. Stern shares it all, including his dramatic fall from grace, in what the Hollywood Reporter calls a “highly intimate, fascinating portrait.” — E.E.B.
