The musical career of a great Chicago bluesman is surveyed in a new package of three CDs and a DVD (Sweet Blues: A Film about Michael Bloomfield, directed by Bob Sarles). The box set, From His Head to His Heart to His Hands (Sony/Legacy), is produced and curated by Al Kooper, who collaborated on albums with Bloomfield. Shown below are Bob Dylan (left) and Bloomfield, during a recording session for the 1965 album Highway 61 Revisited. From His Head includes Bloomfield’s work with Dylan and Kooper, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, the Electric Flag — and a solo acoustic version of “I’m Glad I’m Jewish.” Bloomfield died of a drug overdose on Feb. 15, 1981. He was 37. (Photo: Don Hunstein) — Mordecai Specktor
