Nechama–Jewish Response to Disaster is accepting volunteers to assist with flood cleanup in the Duluth area starting on Thursday, June 28.
Teams will be working Sunday to Friday through the next couple of weeks. Individual volunteers and groups are welcome to join the organization for a day or for multiple days during the deployment.
Volunteers will be mucking out and gutting homes that have been affected by flood waters — removing all affected clothing, furniture, flooring and walls that absorbed water. They will then clean and sanitize the area for the homeowner to rebuild.
No prior experience is necessary, and Nechama staff will provide a safety briefing and cleanup orientation on site at the start of each day.
Volunteers must wear clothing that can get dirty and closed toe shoes, as well as their own lunch.
Volunteers will have secured lodging in a local church that is available for those who would like to stay overnight or for work multiple days (volunteers must bring all bedding, toiletries, etc.).
There is no charge to volunteer with Nechama. For information or to register as a volunteer, visit: www.nechama.org.
