Israeli jazz guitarist Gilad Hekselman, who left the Jewish state for New York City, follows up his 2013 album, This Just In, with Homes (JazzVillage), a superb, atmospheric collection of 12 tunes. On “Verona,” Hekselman unveils the lovely melody, then sprinkles notes like filigreed starlight over the solid foundation laid by bassist Joe Martin and drummer Marcus Gilmore (grandson of legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes). The trio has been together for a decade, and has developed a wondrous rapport. Hekselman’s moody, lyrical approach is on full display in the lovely “Samba Em Prelúdio,” which employs the gentlest swing imaginable. Homes is your ticket to a delightful musical voyage. — Mordecai Specktor
