The AJW has learned that Shirli McAllen, vocalist for the Leftover Cuties, is an Israeli and an army veteran.
McAllen, who moved from Israel to Los Angeles, says, “I grew up listening to Israeli music, ’90s grunge rock and singer-songwriters.”
After a couple of years on the L.A. club scene, McAllen met multi-instrumentalist Austin Nicholsen, and the newly dubbed Leftover Cuties were joined by Stuart Johnson (drums), Ryan Feves (bass), and Mike Bolger (keys, horns and accordion).
The group gained prominence in 2010, when a hastily composed tune, “Game Called Life,” was chosen as the theme song for the Showtime series The Big C, starring Laura Linney.
And you can catch the Leftover Cuties live when they come to the Dakota Jazz Club in downtown Minneapolis, 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.
