Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis (JFCS) and the Sabes JCC will host “Our Voices — Our Abilities: A Jewish Disability Awareness Month Celebration” 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 in the theatre at the JCC, 4330 Cedar Lake Rd. S., St. Louis Park. The event will also mark February as Jewish Disability Awareness Month (JDAM).
“Our Voices — Our Abilities” will be a community-wide celebration of the accomplished musical and artistic talents of local community members who have disabilities. It is described as “an intimate look into a world of which too few of us are aware, presented by the people who live there.”
Performers will tell their own stories through a variety of media, including music, spoken word, dance and visual arts. Among those featured will be Chris Savitt, who has the ability to hear a song and play it completely by ear; and Rebecca Fogel, who has autism and loves music and singing (she is the daughter of professional singer Arne Fogel).
Admission is free. For information or to make a reservation, contact Shelly Christensen, program manager of the Jewish Community Inclusion Program for People with Disabilities, at 952-542-4838 or: schristensen@jfcsmpls.org.
