The Twin Cities Jewish community will host commemorations of Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) and Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) on May 4 and 5.
Yom HaZikaron will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 at both Adath Jeshurun Congregation, 10500 Hillside Ln. W., Minnetonka; and Beth Jacob Congregation, 1179 Victoria Curve, St. Paul. The events will honor Israel’s fallen soldiers.
The Yom Ha’atzmaut Twin Cities Celebration — marking Israel’s 66th anniversary — will take place 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 5 at the Sabes JCC, 4330 Cedar Lake Rd. S., St. Louis Park.
Festivities will include food, Israel fun fair, raffle, a live performance from the Amos and Celia Heilicher Minneapolis Jewish Day School Choir and a tribute to American and Israeli veterans who fought for Israel’s independence.
The Yom Ha’atzmaut Twin Cities Celebration Committee invites men and women who have served either in the Israeli Defense Forces or the United States Armed Forces to be recognized; RSVP to: thankyouveterans2014@gmail.com.
At 7:30 p.m., there will be a screening of Beneath the Helmet, a documentary about the struggles and accomplishments of five Israeli soldiers. A live Q&A will follow with members of the Parallel Lives delegation.
