By the age of 13, Hillel Tigay showed signs of being a prodigy in Jewish music. He could chant Torah “cold” and was able to sing the notoriously difficult text with minimal preparation; by 14, he was hired by his temple to read the weekly Torah portion and by senior year of high school, he had already been hired to lead High Holy Days services, putting the money he made to fund his true passion — guitars.
Tigay will release his new album Judeo (IKAR Music Lab) in December. The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles describes the music as “A cutting-edge imagining of what prayer might have sounded like in the Ancient Temple.”
