For his new album, Ask for Chaos (Hexophonic Music/Motéma), jazz guitarist Gilad Hekselman, an Israeli native living in New York City for the past decade, recorded his original compositions with two backing bands. The 10 tracks here alternate between the gHex Trio (Rick Rosato, bass, and Jonathan Pinson, drums) and the synth-electronica of Zuperoctave (Aaron Parks, synth, Rhodes electric piano and piano, and Kush Abadey, drums and pads). Some tracks on Ask for Chaos are up on Apple Music, with the entire album on sale early next month. The album’s final track, “Do Re Mi Fa Sol,” with the gHex crew, is an entrancing, twangy excursion with strings that Hekselman calls “a love song to music.” It’s a beautiful capper to a wondrous album. — Mordecai Specktor
