In Germany, more than a dozen years after the end of World War II, the citizenry remained ignorant of the details of the Holocaust. Labyrinth of Lies, a fictional narrative film directed by Giulio Ricciarelli, traces the events that led up to the 1963 Frankfurt Auschwitz trials, in which a German court finally put some of the death camp officials in the dock — and allowed Jewish victims to testify about the heinous crimes that they witnessed. Alexander Fehling plays the young prosecutor, who goes from traffic cases to the hunt for war criminals. Apart from a few schmaltzy turns, the film compellingly dramatizes a little-known chapter of post-Shoah history. Labyrinth of Lies, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, is available in Blu-ray, DVD and digital formats Feb. 16 — M.S.
