The David Grisman Folk Jazz Trio will play two sets, at 7 and 9 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 13 at the Dakota Jazz Club, 1010 Nicollet Ave., Minneapolis. Grisman, on mandolin, will be joined by Jim Hurst, guitar, and Sam Grisman, upright bass.
Grisman was part of the bustling Greenwich Village folk music scene in the early 1960s. He began recording, in 1963, with the Even Dozen Jug Band, and has played with Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, Earl Scruggs and Doc Watson, among others.
In 1995, Grisman and Andy Statman recorded Songs of Our Fathers, an acclaimed album comprised mainly of Jewish liturgical and hasidic songs. Grisman and Statman reunited for the 2006 album New Shabbos Waltz, another collection of Jewish melodies.
