Dan Israel, the singer-songwriter and state employee from St. Louis Park, submits his latest bid for rock stardom with the new CD titled Crosstown Traveler (Dan Israel Music). The 10 well-crafted tunes, a mix of ballads and rockers, make for a half-hour or so of enjoyable listening. “I’ll Get Along” is a plaintive, world-weary Randy Newman-esque number. The danceable uptempo “When the Day Is Done” evokes the working class rock of Tom Petty or Elvis Costello. If you want a live taste, there’s a CD release show 9 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at the Aster Café, 125 SE Main St., Minneapolis. Special guest will be Slim Dunlap with Terry Walsh. Tickets are $8; for information, call 612-379-3138 or visit: www.aster-cafe.com. — M.S.
