Adath Jeshurun Congregation will welcome State Rep. Frank Hornstein (DFL), who represents District 60B, on Shabbat morning, Feb. 12, at the synagogue, 10500 Hillside Ln. W., Minnetonka. Hornstein, a co-founder of Jewish Community Action (JCA) and spokesperson for social and economic justice, will speak about “Pursuing Tzedek/Justice: From Grassroots to the State Capitol” during the 9:30 a.m. service.
This Synaplex weekend will help participants to make a difference. During the morning, there will be specific opportunities to connect to volunteer projects, and to match personal interests, skills and time with projects that are a good fit.
Saturday morning activities will include: “Striving to Be Good: The Ethical Impulse in Rabbinic Judaism”; “Matchmaker, Matchmaker, How Can I Help?”; “A Jewish Response to the Foreclosure Crisis”; Meditation Yoga; and fair trade coffee and conversation in the Synaplex Coffee House.
Following lunch, there will be a panel discussion titled “Issues the Jewish Community Cares About: Working with the Legislature to Get Your Voice Heard.” Panelists will include: Judy Cook, lobbyist and senior partner with Cook Girard Associates; Ethan Roberts, director of the JCRC’s Twin Cities Jewish Community Government Affairs Program; and Vic Rosenthal, executive director of JCA. Adath Jeshurun Rabbi Harold Kravitz will moderate the discussion.
