AJW Staff Report
We didn’t think that there would be a Jewish angle to the collapse of the Metrodome’s inflatable roof — apart from Zygi Wilf, the owner of the Vikings franchise — but an annual Jewish event has to relocate this year.
The Minneapolis Jewish Federation’s Young Leadership Tzedakah Bowl, originally scheduled to take place at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, has been relocated to the Plymouth Fieldhouse, 14800 34th Ave. N. The football tournament will take place during its previously scheduled time, 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24.
“Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond the control of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation (or the Minnesota Vikings, for that matter) the HHH Metrodome will not be available for Friday, Dec. 24,” a Federation staff person told the AJW. “As usual, though, the event will be fun for the whole family and the football tournament will take place as scheduled.”
According to an e-mail sent out from the Federation, the Plymouth Fieldhouse “offers a state-of-the-art artificial grass field, free parking and a greatly reduced risk of getting hit in the head with a falling speaker.”
Three panels of the Metrodome’s roof ripped on Dec. 12, following a winter storm that dumped 17 inches of snow in the Twin Cities. A fourth panel ripped on Dec. 15. On Dec. 16, the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission appropriated $1.5 million to deal with the repair and restoration of the Metrodome’s roof, according to the Star Tribune.
