Minnesota Film Arts and the Sabes Foundation Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival will present the premiere of the documentary Ahead of Time, the directorial debut from award-winning cinematographer Bob Richman (An Inconvenient Truth, Waiting for Superman) highlighting the life of history’s wunderkind Ruth Gruber.
The film will run Nov. 19-21 at St. Anthony Main Theatre, 115 S.E. Main St., Minneapolis.
In 1931, at the age of 20, Gruber began her trail-blazing life by graduating as the youngest ever female Ph.D. recipient. Becoming the first journalist to enter the Soviet Arctic; secretly escorting 1,000 Holocaust refugees from Naples to New York; and sitting down for tea with Virginia Woolf were only a few of the adventures that Gruber, now 99, has achieved.
With the unique perspective of a Jewish photojournalist close to the Roosevelt administration, Gruber was the embodiment of feminism long before the 1970s feminist movement, and recently received a lifetime achievement award at the Overseas Press Club of America.
