When the AJW talked with Israeli superstar Idan Raichel last year, ahead of his gig at the Dakota Jazz Club, he described his ensemble as “a musical movement of people that are coming to share their music, share their roots with the world. I hope that more and more musicians from all over the world keep on joining us…. The Idan Raichel Project.” Raichel’s enchanting new album, Quarter to Six (Cumbancha), pushes the artist’s polyglot music forward, as it enlists a diverse array of guests, including Portuguese fado singer Ana Moura, Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré, Palestinian-Israeli singer Mira Awad, and German countertenor Andreas Scholl. Music lovers should check it out. — M.S.
