Rabba Sara Hurwitz will speak about her experiences as the first woman to serve officially as an Orthodox rabbi at a United Jewish Fund and Council Women’s Philanthropy lunch 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19 at the Rossy and Richard Shaller Family Sholom East Campus, 740 Kay Ave., St. Paul.
Hurwitz, who received the title of Maharat — the Hebrew words for “a leader in spiritual and religious matters” — is dean at Yeshivat Maharat, a school for Orthodox women who want to become religious leaders.
