Paul Shaffer

Best known for his 33-year gig as David Letterman’s bandleader, Paul Shaffer is shifting gears post-Late Show. His latest project finds the music maven reunited in the studio with his musical mates from TV land. Paul Shaffer & The World’s Most Dangerous Band (Sire) is a swingin’ collection of a dozen pop, rock and R&B gems executed with passion and aplomb. Shaffer — who’s from just up the road in Thunder Bay, Ontario — plays keyboards and sings, and he’s joined by special guests, including Shaggy (“Cast Your Fate to the Wind”), Jenny Lewis (“Sorrow”), Dion (“Win Your Love for Me”) and Bill Murray (“Happy Street”). Shaffer knows from American popular music, inside and out, and his talent is in all of the grooves here. — Mordecai Specktor
