Avi Avraham tries to crack the case

Israeli author D.A. Mishani, a former editor of the Haaretz literary supplement, is a scholar of detective fiction. He has taught the history of the detective novel at Tel Aviv University. When I met him, in 2013, he said, “I like the realistic, psychological, police procedural.” His third novel translated into English, and available in paperback, is The Man Who Wanted to Know Everything (Harper). Leading his first homicide investigation is Avraham Avraham, a detective with the Holon police department, whom we met previously in The Missing File and A Possibility of Violence. A 60-year-old woman has been found murdered in her apartment, and evidence points to a policeman having committed the crime. Or perhaps the culprit is the woman’s son. — Mordecai Specktor
