Bell and Isserlis play works by Brahms

For the Love of Brahms (Sony Classical), featuring renowned violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Steven Isserlis, a London native, focuses on the theme of love and friendship, specifically, the relationship between Johannes Brahms and his mentor, Robert Schumann — and their mutual friend, violinist and composer Joseph Joachim, who was from a Hungarian Jewish family. The album includes concertos by Brahms and Schumann, played by Bell, Isserlis and the Academy of St. Martin in the Field, which Bell directs. The two string wizards are joined by a longtime friend, pianist Jeremy Denk, for the Brahms Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8. All in all, an album of lovely classical music performed at the highest level. — M.S.
