Sabes JCC to screen Etgar Keret’s ‘Jellyfish’
The film, winner of the Camera d’Or at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, weaves together the intersecting stories of three different women — a waitress who takes in an apparently abandoned child at a local beach; a bride who accidentally ruins her chance at a dream Caribbean honeymoon; and a non-Hebrew-speaking domestic worker who has left her son behind in her native Philippines — while creating an unlikely portrait of modern Israeli life.
The film is in Hebrew with English subtitles, and is presented in partnership with the Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival, Jewish Journeys and the Israel Center of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation as part of Cultural BLVD II: Israeli Author Series.
Etgar Keret will read from his latest book of short stories, Suddenly, A Knock on the Door, and sign copies of the book 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Sabes JCC, 4330 Cedar Lake Rd. S., St. Louis Park. A profile of the author will appear in the AJW’s Nov. 9 print edition.
Tickets for the film screening are $10 for the general public or $8 for JCC members and students; package tickets are available to see Jellyfish on Nov. 4 and meet Keret on Nov. 14 for $16. For tickets and information, call 952-381-3499 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
